AIZOON, in botany, a genus of the icofandria pentandra class. The cup is divided into five parts; the flowers consist of one leaf; the capsule or seed-vessel

has five cells; and the flower-cup rests on the top of the fruit. There are three species of the aizoon, viz. the canariense, the hispanicum, and the paniculatum, which last is a native of Africa. This plant resembles the fedam or house-leek.
