AMELLUS, in botany, a genus of the syngenesia polygamia superflua class. The receptacle of the amellus is paleaceous; the calix is squarrous; and the rays of the corollule undivided. There are only two species of this genus, viz. the lychnitis, a native of the Cape; and the umbellatus, a native of Jamaica.
