ASCYRUM, in botany, a genus of the polyadelphia polyandria class. The calix consists of four leaves; the corolla has four petals; the filaments are numerous, and divided into four bundles. The species are three, viz. the crux andrea, the hypericoides, and the villosum, all natives of the West-Indies or America.
