ATHAMANTA, in botany, a genus of the pentandria digynia class. The fruit is oblong and streaked. The species are 10, only one of which, viz. the libanotis or mountain stone-parsley is a native of Britain. The root of the athamanta meum or spigel, a native of Italy, is an useful aromatic and carminative, though little regarded in the present practice.
