AUGSBURGH, a considerable city of Swabia, in Germany; situated in 11^{\circ} E. long. and 48^{\circ} 20' N. lat. It is an imperial city, and remarkable for being the place where the Lutherans presented their confession of faith to the emperor Charles V. at a diet of the empire held in 1550, from hence denominated the Augsburg confession.
