BARBARY, a large tract of Africa, extending along the Mediterranean, from 2^{\circ} W. long. to 30^{\circ} E. long. that is, from the river Mulvia, which separates it from Morocco, to Egypt.

It comprehends the countries of Algiers, Tunis, Tripoli, and Barca.
