BRANDENBURG, a city of the marquise of Brandenburg in Germany, situated on the river Havel, twenty-six miles west of Berlin: E. long. 13^{\circ}, N. lat. 52^{\circ} 25'.

It was once the capital of Brandenburg; but is now on the decline, since Berlin supplanted it.
