BRUGES, a city and port-town of Flanders, eleven miles east of Ostend, and twenty-four north-west of Ghent: E. lon. 3^{\circ} 5', and N. lat. 51^{\circ} 16'.

There is a navigable canal from Ostend to Bruges, which has still the best foreign trade of any town in Flanders.
