ÆGILOPS, in botany, a genus of the polygonia monœcia class. There are five species of this plant, which is a kind of grass, viz. the ovata, caudata, squarrosa, triuncialis, and incurvata, only the last of which is a native of Britain, and grows by the sea-shore. The English name is sea-hair-grass.
