ÆSCHYNOMENE, in botany, a genus of the diadelphia decandria class. There are seven species of this genus, none of which are natives of Britain. The calix of the æschynomene is bilabiated, and the pod jointed. It is also a synonyme of several species of the mimosa, or sensitive plant. See MIMOSA.
