ÆSCULUS, in botany, a genus of the leptandria monogynia class. There are only two species of it, viz. the castanum, and the pavia, both natives of India. The calix of the æsculus is monophyllous with five teeth; the corolla has five petals unequally coloured, and inserted into the calix.
