CHRYSANTHEMUM, in botany, a genus of plants belonging to the syngenesia polygamia superflua class. The receptacle is naked, it has no pappus; the calix is hemispherical and imbricated; and the scales on the margin are membranaceous. There are nineteen species, two of which are natives of Britain, viz. the fegetum, or corn mary-gold; and the leucanthemum, or ox-eye daisy.
