COLCHICUM, or MEADOW SAFFRON, in botany, a genus
genus of the hexandria trigynia class. The corolla is divided into six segments, and the tube is radicated; it has three inflated capsules united together. The species are three, only one of which, viz. the autumnal, or meadow-saffron, is a native of Britain.
