CALICUT, a town situated on the Malabar coast, in the hither peninsula of India, subject to its own prince: E. long. 75^{\circ}, and N. lat. 11^{\circ} 20'.

This was the first port the Portuguese made in India, after sailing round the Cape of Good Hope.
