COTYLEDON, in botany, a genus of the decandria pentagynia class. The calix is divided into five segments; the corolla consists of one petal; there are five nectariferous scales at the base of the germin; and it has five capsules. The species are eight, only one of which is a native of Britain, viz. the umbilicus, or navel-wort.
