DIGITALIS, or FOX-GLOVE, in botany, a genus of the didynamia angiospermia class. The calix is divided into five segments; the corolla is bell-shaped, ventricose, and has five divisions; and the capsule is oval, and has two cells. There are six species, only one of which, viz. the purpurea, or purple fox-glove, is a native of Britain. The leaves are said to be emetic and vulnerary, but are little used.
