DIOSCOREA, in botany, a genus of the dioecia hexandria class. The calix both of the male and female consists of six segments, and they have no corolla. The female has three styli; the capsule is compressed, has three cells, and contains two membranaceous seeds. There are eight species, none of them natives of Britain.
