EMPETRUM, BERRY BEARING HEATH, in botany, a genus of the diœcia triandria class. The calix of both male and female consists of three segments, and the corolla of three petals. The female has nine styli; and the berry contains nine seeds. There are two species, one of which, viz. the nigrum, black-berried heath, crow or crake berries, is a native of Britain.
