HERCINIAN FOREST, a forest which anciently extended the whole length of Germany and Bohemia, some remains of which are still in being, viz. the Black Forest, Odenwald near Heidelberg, Stigewald in Wurtemberg, and Bamberg, and Hartswald in Brunswick.
