CARUM, CARAWAY, in botany, a genus of the pentandra

tandria digynia class. The fruit is oblong and striated; the involucre consists of but one leaf; and the petals are carinated and emarginated. There is but one species, viz. the caroi, a native of Britain. The feeds have an aromatic smell and pungent taste; and are frequently employed as a stomachic and carminative in flatulent cases.
