LAVATERA, in botany, a genus of the monadelphia polyandria class. The calix is double, the exterior one being divided into three segments; and there are many capsules, containing each a number of seeds. There are nine species, only one of which, viz. the arborea,
arborea, or sea-tree mallow, is a native of Britain.
