NOVA-ZEMBLA, or Newland, called by the Dutch the island of Weygats, is situated in the frozen ocean, between 50^{\circ} and 80^{\circ} east longitude, and between 70^{\circ} north latitude and the north pole: it is separated from the province of Samoida, in Russia, by the straits of Weygats.
