OPHIOXYLON, in botany, a genus of the polygamia monoecia class. The corolla and calix of the hermaphrodite consists of five segments; it has five stamens, and one pistillum: The calix of the male is bisid; the corolla is funnel-shaped, with a cylindrical nectarium near the inner edge, and consists of five segments; it has only two stamens. There is but one species, a native of Ceylon.
