PANAX, in botany, a genus of the polygamia dioecia class. The calix of the hermaphrodite has five teeth, and the corolla five petals; there are five stamens, and two styles; and the berry contains two seeds. The calix of the male is entire; the corolla has five petals; and there are five stamens. The species are three, none of them natives of Britain.
