PLATANUS, the PLANE-TREE, in botany, a genus of the monœcia polyandria class. The calix both of the male and female is a roundish amentum; the male has no corolla; the corolla of the female consists of many petals; the stigma is bent backward; and the seeds are round. The species are two, none of them natives of Britain.
