MAGDALEN, or Nuns of St MAGDALEN, an order of religious in the Romish church, dedicated to St Mary Magdalen, and sometimes called Magdalenettes. These chiefly consist of courtesans, who, quitting their profession, devote the rest of their lives to repentance and mortification.
