RICINUS, in botany, a genus of the monandria monadelphia class. The calix of the male has five segments; it has no corolla, but the stamens are numerous: The calix of the female has three segments; it has no corolla; the style is three, and bifid; and the capsule has three cells, and one seed. There are three species, none of them natives of Britain.
