MELISSA, in botany, a genus of the didynamia gymnosperma class. The calix is dry, and plain above; the upper lip of the corolla is vaulted and bifid; and the middle lobe of the under lip is cordated. There are eight species, two of which are natives of Britain, viz. the calaminta, or common calamint; and the repeta, or field calamint.
