SALINE, a name given to a preparation of sea-salt, procured from the froth of the sea, hardened by the sun in hot countries. It is called by some authors pilatro de Levante, and is used in glass-making; and in the making the fine purple colour from cochineal, by boiling it in a small quantity, with the bran and fenugreek, of which the magistery is made for that purpose.
