SALIX, in botany, a genus of the dicæia diandria class. The amentum of both male and female consists of scales; none of them have any corolla; the stylus is bifid; the capsule has but one cell, and two valves; and the seeds are pappous. There are 31 species, 18 of them natives of Britain.
