SICILY, the largest of all the Italian islands, anciently called Trinacria, from its triangular figure; it is situated between 12^{\circ} and 16^{\circ} E. long. and between 37^{\circ} and 39^{\circ} N. lat. being about one hundred and seventy miles long, and one hundred broad.
