SWERTIA, in botany, a genus of the pentandria digynia class. The corolla is rotated, and there are nectariferous pores at the bases of the different lacunae of the corolla; the capsule has one cell, and two valves. There are five species, only one of them, viz. the perennis, or marsh gentian, a native of Britain.
