TAXUS, in botany, a genus of the diœcia monodelphia class. The calix of both male and female consists of three leaves; neither of them have any corolla; the stamens are numerous; the anthers are rotated, and divided into eight segments; the female has no style; and the berry contains one seed. There are two species, only one of them, viz. the baccata, or yew-tree, a native of Britain.
