TURBITH, or TURBETH-ROOT, in the materia medica, the cortical part of the root of an Indian convolvulus, brought to us in oblong pieces, of a brown or ash-colour on the outside, and whitish within: the belt is ponderous, not wrinkled, easy to break, and discovering a large quantity of resinous matter to the eye: its taste is at first sweetish; when chewed for a little time, it becomes acid,

pungent, and nauseous. This root is a cathartic, not of the fistful, or most certain kind.
