VALANTIA, in botany, a genus of the polygamia monoecia class. Neither the hermaphrodite or male have any calix; the corolla of each consists of four segments; there are four stamens; the stylus of the hermaphrodite is bifid, and it has but one seed. There are three species, only one of them, viz. the cruciata or cross-wort, a native of Britain.
