VOMITING, in medicine, a retrograde spasmodic motion of the muscular fibres of the oesophagus, stomach, and intestines, attended with strong convulsions of the muscles of the abdomen and diaphragm, which, when gentle, create a nausea; when violent, a vomiting. See MEDICINE, p. 115.
