AMORGOS, or AMURGUS, (anc. geogr.) now Morge, not far from Naxus to the east, one of the European Sporades; the country of Simonides the Iambic poet, (Strabo.) To this island criminals were banished, (Tacitus.) It was famous for a fine flax called Emorgis. See MORGO.
