ANTICIRRHA, (Strabo); ANTICYRA, (Paufanias, Stephanus, Livy); a town in Phocis, on the Corinthian bay, opposite to Cirrha, lying to the west on the same bay. Another Anticirrha, or Anticyra, on the Sinus Maliacus, and near mount Oeta, where grew the best hellebore, (Strabo, Stephanus); but which Paufanias ascribes to the Anticyra of Phocis: Hence the adage, Naviget Anticyram, (Horace,) used of a person of an unfound mind. The gentilicious name is Anticyrenus, (Paufanias.)
