APHRODISIUS, an inland city of Caria, called the Metropolis, (Ptolemy, Stephanus;) said by Suidas to have been called Ninon. Another of Cilicia, (Ptolemy;) so called from the worship and a temple of Venus, (Pliny). A third of Thrace, to the north of the isthmus of the Chersonesus; an open town, till strongly fortified by Justinian, (Procopius).
