APHTHÆ, in medicine, small, round, and super-
ficial ulcers arising in the mouth. The principle seat
of this disease, is the extremity of the excretory ves-
sels, salival glands, and, in short, all glands that fur-
nish a humour like the saliva, as the lips, gums, &c.
