ARAUSIO, or Civitas Arausensis, or Arauficorum, (Notitiae); Colonia Secundanorum, (Mela, Pliny, Coins), so called because the veterans of the second legion were there settled: The capital of the Cavarea, in Gallia Narbonensis; now Orange, in the west of Provence, on an arm of the rivulet Egue, which soon after falls into the Rhone, from which it is distant a league to the east, at the foot of a mountain.
