BUTTONY. A cross buttony, in heraldry, terminates at each end in three buds, knots, or buttons, resembling, in some measure, the three-leaved grass; on which account Segoeing, in his Treſor Heraldique, terms it crois treſſee. It is the badge of the order of St. Maurice. See HERALDRY Plates.
