CALENBERG, a principality of Lower Saxony, and one of the three parts of the duchy of Brunswick, is bounded on the north by the duchy of Verden, on the east by the principality of Zell, on the south by the principalities of Grubenhausen and Wolfenbutter, and on the west by Westphalia. It belongs to the elector of Hanover.
