COOLERS, in medicine, those remedies which produce an immediate sense of cold, being such as have their parts in less motion than those of the organs of feeling; as fruits, and all acid liquors. Or they are such as by a particular viscosity, or grossness of parts, give the animal fluids a greater consistency than they had before, and consequently retard their motion, having less of that intestine force on which their heat depends: of this sort are cucumbers, and all substances producing viscosity.
