DUMFERLINE, a parliament-town of Scotland, situated in the county of Fife, 15 miles north-west of Edinburgh: W. Long. 30. 20. N. Lat. 56. 15. Here was formerly a magnificent abbey and palace of the kings of Scotland, in which the princess Elizabeth, daughter of king James VI. and mother of the princess Sophia, from whom the present royal family are descended, was born.
