DIANA, the goddess of hunting, in heathen mythology, was the daughter of Jupiter and Latona. She is called Hecate in hell, Diana on earth, and Phoebe in heaven. She was famous for her chastity. Her temple at Ephesus was one of the seven wonders of the world. It was burnt the same day that Alexander the Great was born, by Erostratus, from no other motive but to perpetuate his name.
