DANAUS, in fabulous history, daughter to Acrisius, king of Argos; who being informed by an oracle, that he should be killed by her son, shut her up in a castle of brass to prevent it: but Jupiter transforming himself into a shower of gold, or, in other words, corrupting her guards, he obtained access to her; and Danae becoming pregnant, brought forth Perseus, who at length killed Acrisius.
