HERMAN (Paul), a famous botanist in the 17th century, was born at Hall in Saxony. He practised physic in the Isle of Ceylon, and was afterwards made professor of botany at Leyden, where he died in 1695. He wrote a catalogue of the plants in the public garden at Leyden, and a work intitled Flora Lugduno-Batavae flores.
