JABES-GALAAD, or JABESH-GILEAD, (anc. geogr.) a city of Judæa, lying beyond the river Jordan, called Jabifus and Jabissa by Josephus; the metropolis of Gilead. In Jerome's time, a village on an eminence, six miles from Pella.
