INSTINCT, a natural disposition or sagacity wherewith animals are endowed; by virtue whereof they are enabled to provide for themselves, know what is good for them, and determined to preserve and propagate their species.
INSTINCT bears some analogy to reason, and supplies the defect of it in brutes. See BRUTE.
